Student Loan Forgiveness is another loser for the Democrats

 

Higher education should be free, but it's not, and not likely to be anytime soon. We're blowing a bunch of money already, so why not give these people a break? Because paying off a bunch of student loans now will only make higher education more expensive for those who follow.  Lots of deserving people are mired in debt and would love some help too. How easy will it be for Republicans to use this to divide people? 

When measured by income, the poorest one-fifth of Americans hold about 8 percent of all student debt in America. In contrast, the wealthiest one-fifth of American households have a third of all student debt. If you want to fix some things, and many things need fixing, maybe don't start with a cohort that is so easily portrayed by the other side as elite, when you couldn't even keep the COVID-era SNAP payments going. As a result of Democrats failure to protect children, 30 million Americans lost the help they desperately need to feed their hungry children, while inflation continues to surge.

Biden's order to liquidate up to $20,000 of student debt per borrower has been put on hold due to a lawsuit and The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case soon.  The Biden Administration knows it doesn't stand a chance with this conservative court, but they think telling borrowers that, "Well, we tried" will be adequate to explain their failure, as they have done with so many other things. Ultimately they will just disappoint those 43 million who have student loan debt while at the same time handing another explosive issue to the GOP. When will they learn that this sort of performance art just makes things worse?

It's time to tell this generation the truth -- the value of the average college education has dropped dramatically already and just wait till ChatGPT and other Artificial Intelligence starts replacing all those boring and repetitive computer-based jobs that currently require a 4-year degree. For most people, advanced skills will be much more important than advanced knowledge in the future. If enough people would find alternative career paths now, it will be better for them anyway, and then tuition will start to fall.
