Our Kitchen Remodel

Last year in a blog post titled " A Low Low Budget Kitchen Remodel " I showed how I removed a gas cooktop and duel oven from our kitchen, replaced them with a commercial style gas range, and reconfigured the cabinets.   It was a good temporary fix but wasn't enough to stave off a complete makeover for very long. Here's the story in pictures of our remodel: Jim Larson, our kitchen designer at Europe Construction doesn't need a fake beard when he works as a Santa during the holidays.  First, the cabinets were delivered  Then the demo started  Since there was no room in the house or the garage to store everything, it was put outside under tents. Good thing the weather cooperated.  The new floor looks great, but some of the drywall that used to be behind the sink was pretty nasty, so it was replaced.  New overhead lighting with the kitchen and dining room on separate dimmers. A Low Low Budget Kitchen Remodel

I removed my electric oven and gas cooktop, cut the cabinets and tile to accomodate a new gas free standing range, and reworked the cabinet space by adding some side panels and some shelves. Fortunately for me, this required minimal skills and tools I already own. If you're thinking about changing out your old cooking appliances for a nice new range like I did, let me assure you that it's not very difficult. If I can do this anyone can. We'd love a new dream kitchen, but we're still trying to figure out how to pay for it. One day the oven started making noise like a jackhammer every time it was turned on, so we had to do something right away. This is only supposed to be temporary so I was trying to get off cheap. The new gas range only cost $1K (Best Buy, Labor Day) with free delivery and I spent less than $100 on the rest. Hey! Now we can put off that expensive kitchen remodel for a while longer, I hope.
